"OMG" by Usher.
WTF?
WTF indeed! We stand for Films, Tunes, and Whatever else we feel like (not necessarily in order!) Professor Nonsense heads the 'Whatever' department, posting ramblings ranging from the decrepit, to the offbeat, to the just plain absurd! The mysterious Randor takes helm of the 'Tunes' front, detailing the various melodic messages he gets in earfuls. Weekly recommendations and various musings follow his shadows. Finally, our veteran movie critic, Lt Archie Hicox, commands the 'Film' battlefield, giving war-weathered reviews on flicks the way he sees them. Through the eyes of a well-versed renegade, he stands down for no man! Together we are (W)hatever(T)unes(F)ilms!

OMG UP TOP!!1!
As disappointing a short run "Nothin' on You" had, I can't say I didn't see this coming. Usher's popularity mixed with will.i.am of the Peas and that contagious electronic undertone (not to mention good ole auto-tune)? Of course this song would hit number one! I just wish it would've let B.o.B. have a few more laps up there... If you're moreso in the dark than the Pink Floyd album, the new Billboard #1 I'm talkin' bout is:

Nothin' on You Up Top
I personally think of Rihanna's "Rude Boy" as a club smash rather than a month-long Number-one. Its simple, repetitive nature lends to dance halls instead of everyday listens. Billboard has proven me wrong there, but say hello to the next chart-topper:

Rude Boy, Up Top
There's another shift in the Billboard clouds. With "Break Your Heart" taking its leave, a new song has reached apogee:

"Rude Boy" by Rihanna.
She's no stranger to first chair, and neither is that nasal drone of hers. Obviously the general public eats it up, but I'm not as sold.

Break Your Heart, Up Top
This is what I like to see! Some variety in the top spot! Again I will stress that holding the Number One position on Billboard's charts certainly doesn't define the quality of a song, especially since only those of a certain genre ever catch the public eye these days. But there's some reputation to be obtained, and even with the fickle tastes of the population at large, not every popular artist can accomplish the fest. Since it's noteworthy in that sense, why not spread the wealth around? Stay above all else too long and even the best can become a tyrant. Anyhow, the Black Eyed Peas only held it for two weeks before a new champ was named:

Imma Be Up Top
Finally, Ke$ha's monster has slipped from the top spot of the Billboard charts. It held the throne for a good two months and may very well force it's way up for a few more on-and-off weeks. But the continuous reign of the terrible tune has ended, and can only fall further down the slopes, hopefully (though unlikely) into obscurity.

A New Decade (+Up Top)
Another ten years have passed. Music has long been grouped by the decade songs were released in, with various genres being associated with the appropriate era. The 80's perhaps are best known for new wave and disco, the 90's for grundge/alternative and bubble gum pop. While it may be a little early to declare a trend for the newly finished ten-year set, the most obvious rumblings I can see are the rise of heavy electronic beats, auto-tune, and Indie music.
