WTF?

WTF indeed! We stand for Films, Tunes, and Whatever else we feel like (not necessarily in order!) Professor Nonsense heads the 'Whatever' department, posting ramblings ranging from the decrepit, to the offbeat, to the just plain absurd! The mysterious Randor takes helm of the 'Tunes' front, detailing the various melodic messages he gets in earfuls. Weekly recommendations and various musings follow his shadows. Finally, our veteran movie critic, Lt Archie Hicox, commands the 'Film' battlefield, giving war-weathered reviews on flicks the way he sees them. Through the eyes of a well-versed renegade, he stands down for no man! Together we are (W)hatever(T)unes(F)ilms!

OMG UP TOP!!1!

As disappointing a short run "Nothin' on You" had, I can't say I didn't see this coming. Usher's popularity mixed with will.i.am of the Peas and that contagious electronic undertone (not to mention good ole auto-tune)? Of course this song would hit number one! I just wish it would've let B.o.B. have a few more laps up there... If you're moreso in the dark than the Pink Floyd album, the new Billboard #1 I'm talkin' bout is:
OMG
"OMG" by Usher.

Imma Be Up Top

Finally, Ke$ha's monster has slipped from the top spot of the Billboard charts. It held the throne for a good two months and may very well force it's way up for a few more on-and-off weeks. But the continuous reign of the terrible tune has ended, and can only fall further down the slopes, hopefully (though unlikely) into obscurity.

Need a Lyrical Miracle! Part 1

I am displeased to announce that Ke$ha's "Tik Tok" not only was the first number one of the new decade, but has thus far held the spot for the entire month of January. In case you missed the derisive banter, here's my schpeel about it. This, however, certainly isn't a post about revisiting former topics (still too new to be doing that methinks!), but if we're talking about bad lyrics, you can pretty much select any line out of that song. And we, indeed, will be talking bad lyrics here.

'09: Nail in the Coffin

While I'm not so sure if these indeed are the top 25 pop songs of 2009, and I think it relies a little too heavily on the Black Eyed Peas "I Gotta Feeling", this mash-up celebrates the big songs of the year cohesively. Pretty well done, mixing even the various music videos together. After watching this, I find it odd how popular the word "Down" was, besides of course noting the similar chord structures. Also, it gives nods to (sorta)country and rock with artists like Taylor Swift (whom is a topic for another day) and the Fray, but mainly contains the forerunners of hip-hop and pop. Check it out:
