WTF?

WTF indeed! We stand for Films, Tunes, and Whatever else we feel like (not necessarily in order!) Professor Nonsense heads the 'Whatever' department, posting ramblings ranging from the decrepit, to the offbeat, to the just plain absurd! The mysterious Randor takes helm of the 'Tunes' front, detailing the various melodic messages he gets in earfuls. Weekly recommendations and various musings follow his shadows. Finally, our veteran movie critic, Lt Archie Hicox, commands the 'Film' battlefield, giving war-weathered reviews on flicks the way he sees them. Through the eyes of a well-versed renegade, he stands down for no man! Together we are (W)hatever(T)unes(F)ilms!

Shuffled Silly, part 1

Hey there all, I'm starting up a new feature here (clearly) called 'Shuffled Silly.' This one goes out to all you shufflebugs who enjoy putting your music player on random, and occasionally find the oddest background music to your activities. Sometimes ironic, sometimes embarrassing, but ALWAYS comical! For now, I'll be shooting out examples from my own memories, but if you have any of your own, be sure to send 'em in via comment or e-mail, and you may be featured yourself someday!

Picture this: I'm on my way home from a vacation in New Orleans. I'm relaxing on the plane before departure in those awkward chairs with headphones on, jamming to whatever song comes on through the shuffle. What ill-fated song could possibly cue that only I could hear on an airplane waiting to take off? Well, seeing as I was getting out of New Orleans, it had to be Led Zeppelin's "Before the Levee Breaks", of course! Now, besides sporting an odd grin to passerbys still trying to locate their seats, I'm fairly sure this was the last song I heard before they told us put away the electronics. Therefore, I had the tune perpetually rolling through my head as I caught my last glipse of the Big Easy.
Okay, so by itself, certainly a good coincidence. But my travel home faced another tasteless irony on the layover in Denver. This time, waiting at the gate to be let on the aircraft, the same trusty 'rPod the Third' belting out its cornucopia of ear-candy. When the time came to walk through that jet bridge, I stood up and mentally gaped at the tune that started. Cobra Starship's "Snakes on a Plane (Bring It)", WHICH, by the way, also features the lead singers from The Academy Is..., Gym Class Heroes, and The Sounds (the latter of which happens to be one of the many, many favorite bands of mine). Quite an odd grouping actually, but the song is as cheesy-good and catchy as the film its from! Anyway, another sound suggesting destruction and discomfort, only this time on the plane I was now boarding.
It's almost a shame that the songs were broadcasted only through the earphones and not loud-speakers. I imagine, aside from the potential chaos the lyrics could deliver, some light-hearted folks would enjoy the irony as much as I did. Hopefully, you do as well!

  1. Awesome post! Just as long as coincidence doesn't start playing "Beds Are Burning" as you're listening to music while trying to go to sleep. Now that would be unsettling!
