WTF?

WTF indeed! We stand for Films, Tunes, and Whatever else we feel like (not necessarily in order!) Professor Nonsense heads the 'Whatever' department, posting ramblings ranging from the decrepit, to the offbeat, to the just plain absurd! The mysterious Randor takes helm of the 'Tunes' front, detailing the various melodic messages he gets in earfuls. Weekly recommendations and various musings follow his shadows. Finally, our veteran movie critic, Lt Archie Hicox, commands the 'Film' battlefield, giving war-weathered reviews on flicks the way he sees them. Through the eyes of a well-versed renegade, he stands down for no man! Together we are (W)hatever(T)unes(F)ilms!

Randor's Song of the Week: 01.17.10

Milk Man by Deerhoof
"Milk Man" by Deerhoof from the album Milk Man. 2004.

Most likely, this song has a polarizing effect. One of those "Love It/Hate It" things. It certainly sits on the experimental side of the line, though this song is a concerto compared to some of the odd things I've heard before (those example links only scratch the surface of the surface). Personally, I love it. Hence the featuring!
The song starts off in a slow groove, with a fresh time signature. Shortly, and quite suddenly, a distorted guitar smashes its way in. Just when you think it's a hard rocking number, the volume again cuts leaving an oddly soft female singer. Right from the start, your expectations of the song are cut and throughout the rest you can only guess as to what will come next.
