Clint Eastwood's latest film, "Hereafter", isn't a film about special effects, its about the story. Eastwood is a master storyteller and gets better with each film. "Hereafter" considers the idea of an afterlife, a plausible afterlife. This film is for intelligent people who are curious to find out what happens after one dies. Eastwood depicts three different stories and how they all come together in the end.
Throughout the film, the characters behave in ways that seem reasonable enough, and possibilities are left open, which is as it should be. We must live the lives we know and not count on anything beyond that.

The powers that are portrayed by Matt Damon's character seem authentic, although what they achieve is hard to say. Each situation that he encounters is handled with a delicacy and kindness either way. Eastwood and his actors achieve a tone that doesn't force the material but embraces it. The characters are not hurtling towards a resolution of a plot because there is no real solution, just comfort.
Eastwood's film embodies how love makes us feel for the need of their being an afterlife.
