WTF?

WTF indeed! We stand for Films, Tunes, and Whatever else we feel like (not necessarily in order!) Professor Nonsense heads the 'Whatever' department, posting ramblings ranging from the decrepit, to the offbeat, to the just plain absurd! The mysterious Randor takes helm of the 'Tunes' front, detailing the various melodic messages he gets in earfuls. Weekly recommendations and various musings follow his shadows. Finally, our veteran movie critic, Lt Archie Hicox, commands the 'Film' battlefield, giving war-weathered reviews on flicks the way he sees them. Through the eyes of a well-versed renegade, he stands down for no man! Together we are (W)hatever(T)unes(F)ilms!

Randor's Song of the Week: 07.04.10

Memory Almost Full
"Mr. Bellamy" by Paul McCartney from the album Memory Almost Full. 2007.

Everyone's heard of the Beatles and their legacy. After the break-up though, public knowledge starts to fade. The farther you look from 1970, the less people seem to know about the former mop-tops' recordings. Sure, you can throw McCartney's Wings and Lennon's Plastic Ono Band at me, besides the few hits Harrison had, but think in general terms. The Beatles' massive success never compared to any of the post-breakup releases, no matter the little popularity spikes they may have produced.
Paul has been prolific with his album releases, reaching into classical music and even experimental vibes with the Fireman. Memory Almost Full was just a normal McCartney style original album- his highest charting since 1997 in fact. The song I picked here is interesting... it certainly sounds like something a former-Beatle would dream up. The imagery released in the lyrics fit with the off-beat melodies: a story of a misunderstood man being hounded by unwanted rescuers. That description doesn't quite do it justice, so have a listen for yourself- and don't be put off by the unique piano bit!
