"Don't Give Up" by Eagle-Eye Cherry from the album Sub Rosa. 2003.
If you're looking for motivational songs, you can't get any more clear than this. The title alone speaks its message, but in case you missed it, the chorus will dutifully slap it into your brain. The lyrics basically cover the whole "Things aren't so good right now, but if we believe and persevere, perhaps today is the day that changes" bit. Hopefully in a fashion more eloquent for your ears.
Seems that there's two versions of this one, though. They're similar, but one has more of a bass-y sound, which is the one linked above. It's more likely to be the remix that appeared in Holes. I happen to like it better than this version (the likely original), but as always both have their merits.
In terms of the mainstream vibe, Eagle-Eye Cherry is known simply for his '98 hit (in the U.S.) "Save Tonight" before falling off the map. From what I know beyond that, he's got a trademark mellow voice that's more on par with a soothing sort of melodic talking. He tends to record the upbeat vibe, or perhaps better said, the uplifting. If you only know him from what you hear here, I'd suggest doing some YouTube sleuthing on his work.
They've also had the single "Falling in Love Again" which I think was from that same album. It's weird this is your song of the week, cause the band keeps popping up in the most random places for me. hahah
